Restatements (Questions 9-12)

This part consists of several sentences, each followed by four possible ways of restating the
main idea of that sentence in different words. For each question, choose the one restatement
which best expresses the meaning of the original sentence.

9. When the Brooklyn Bridge was finished in 1883, it was the longest and tallest

suspension bridge in the world.

(1) The Brooklyn Bridge, the longest and tallest suspension bridge in existence, was

completed in 1883.

(2) Since the completion of the Brooklyn Bridge in 1883, many suspension bridges
