Reading Comprehension

This part consists of two passages, each followed by several related questions. For each
question, choose the most appropriate answer based on the text.

Text I (Questions 13-17)

(1) One of the problems faced by many parents before the birth of a child is deciding
what the child's name will be. Everyone wants to find the perfect name: one that will
be special, but not too unusual; easy to remember, but not too common. Following
several simple guidelines may make the choice of a name easier.

(5) First, names for children should be chosen by both parents together. Although this
may seem easy, couples are often surprised by how much they disagree and how bitterly
they argue over this issue. Michelle Brady, who has a two-year-old daughter, recounts:
"Because my husband and I are so alike in our tastes, I never thought that agreeing on a
name would be such a big problem. But he thought my suggestions – Caesar

(10) Alexander, Victoria Somer – were too weird, and I thought that his suggestions – David,
Mary, Kevin – were too boring. It took us six months to find a name that we both
liked!" Michelle's story also emphasizes the importance of starting to look for names
several months before the baby is born.

Many parents want to give their children fashionable names: names that are
(15) relatively new and different but also popular. To find out what these names are, they can

talk to other parents or simply listen to the names called out in the neighborhood
playground. Most children like having popular names because this makes them feel
       popular.

More and more parents these days want to find an unusual spelling for their child's
(20) name. But trying to be too original can create big problems for children. First of all,

they will go through life constantly having to correct the way people spell and
pronounce their name. More important, as a study at the University of California found,
people whose names have traditional spellings are considered more successful, popular,
and even cheerful than those whose names have unusual spellings.
